- Board Asus P5K-e (ICH9R) BIOS 1305
- Socket 775 Intel Q6600
- NIC Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E 0x4364
- Onboard SATA via AHCI, two HDD
- 8 GB RAM

Note, I only got the onboard NIC working with this driver:

The sky2 from VMware didn't work for me.

Edit: I used ISO "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-.1.0.update1-348481.x86_64.iso" and the mkesxiaio_4.2.sh on Ubuntu 10.04.2 to embedded the oem.tgz

I am trying to install ESXi 4.1 on my Asus P5K-E Wifi/AP motherboard, without success.

Could you describe a bit more what you did to make it work ? Per example, must I disable some onboard devices to make it work, per examble, the jmicron controler ? I have a SATA CD drive, will this work ?

Thanks for your help.

best to connect the HDD not to the jmicron connector.

Also try to buy a Intel NIC for $30 as it saves you a lot of hassle with the embedding of custom driver.

If this is your first ESXi go for Intel NIC and connect HDD to the non jmicron stuff.

good luck.

Thanks Tilo. I did exactly what you suggest, and it worked perfectly. The problem was the NIC which is unsupported.
