The on-board NIC is a no-go as usual?

It has a Realtek 8111D so you'd either have to add another NIC or try one of the community compiled drivers.

That's what I figured. No big deal.

I built an ESXi server on this motherboard over the weekend... went well with an Intel PCI Dual NIC. 8GB of 1333 and a Phenom II X4 965.

60GB SSD for ESXi and my standard Win7 workstation, and two more 320GB drives for playing around.

I had a problem installing from a PATA DVD drive - the installer reported it was unable to mount the image, or something. I'm not sure if it's because of a faulty drive or because ESXi doesn't support the PATA interface? I had to install from a SATA DVD drive.
