Hey guys, just wanted to give you an update. I bought the following hardware for my ESXi host.

MSI 880GM-E41
Phenom II 955 X4 3.2ghz
4x4GB G.skill Ripjaws DDR3

I was able to install ESXi without a hitch.

Hi cosmo,

Everything went fine with the installation of ESXi with this motherboard? I'm planning to buy the same kind, and an Athlon II X4 610e. Just wanted to know how many struggling I can expect :)

It does install without a hitch, but you have to have a network board that is supported in order to get it going.

If anyone has a way of getting the Atheros onboard nic working, please share.

cheers,

Wiz

I've just put together my host using a MSI 880GM-E41. The installation of ESXI 4.1 went smoothly, as others said before. Just disable the onboard NIC, and replace with a supported one.

Specs:
MSI 880GM-E41
AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0 GHz
2x2 GB DDR3 1333MHz
Single 320 GB SATA drive
Broadcom BCM5782 GbE NIC

I would like to know how you got this to work as well.

I have a 880GM-E41 motherboard, I have disabled the onboard nic and installed a supported Realtek 8139. Still could not install it.

Please help need to get this server up asap and I hate the idea of using windows to virtulize it.
