After a bunch of messing around and with a vast amount of help from this site, I have ESXi 4.0 (Update 1) running on an ASUS P7F-X.
MB: Asus P7F-X
NIC: Onboard on the MB, 2 x Marvell 88E8056
Chipset: Intel 3420
CPU: Xeon X3430 (4 cores, no hyperthreading, VT-x and VT-d supported), socket LGA1156
Bios: Asus P7F-X Bios 0601
MB Supports VT-d and VT-x.
Storage controller is Intel Ibex Peak (and uses the PIIX driver PROVIDED your simple.map in the OEM.tgz includes the appropriate information).
Onboard NIC and storage controller working.
Storage controller configured as IDE (not AHCI).
VT-d enabled in BIOS.
In order to enable the onboard NICs, the sky2.o driver from kernelcrash (
http://www.kernelcrash.com/blog/using-a ... 009/08/22/) is required. Added this to OEM.TGZ and booted using a USB flash drive. A separate post will be up soon on how to do this without installing Linux anywhere.
FT Capability: unknown.
ESXi 4.1.0 (260247) won't install and seems to have a variety of problems. 4.0 (update 1) however seems to run fine.
