I successfully installed ESXi 4.0 out of the box on a DELL OPTIPLEX 780. The network card was recognized and the hard drives were detected. The system info is given below:
Precessor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400
Ram: 4GB
NIC (onboard): Intel Corporation 82567LM-3 Gigabit Network Connection
Storage: WDC WD 320 GB.

anshul_singla,
Can you confirm which Optiplex 780 you have (mini tower, desktop, or small form factor)? Or do you know if Dell used the same boards in all three?
I'm considering the 780 with a quad and 16GB's of RAM for a ESXi 4.1 rig.

Thx.

I have found a problem as below, please suggest
The installation operation has encountered a fatal error:
Unable to find the system image to install. This is due to image not being mounted correctly of the CD-ROM not being supported

Try an install of 4.0 and then upgrade to 4.1.

If you are using my script, try the kickstart option, it should prevent that problem. I have not tested it yet but according the to website I found it on it should. If you are using a USB as installation media.

If you are using CD then install 4.0 or change CD drive
