I think mine's been running long enough for me to post it as a success. It's being used as a test and training rig for Cisco products.
- Asus P8Z68V-LE Motherboard, Intel Z68 chipset, socket 1155 socket and i7-2600K CPU
- BIOS 0401 2011.07.02
- Onboard Realtek 8111 NIC and Intel chipset SATA both working
- does the MB support Intel VT (vt-x) - YES
- does it support vt-d (directed I/O) - NO

Vmware ESXi Hypervisor edition (free), 4.1 U1.

I used a ready-made with the Realtek driver, and the windows script to re-write the ISO into a customised install. Onboard SATA ports need to be set to RAID for the drives to be detected.

Thanks to the forum here, without which I wouldn't have found either of those settings.
