Dual Opteron 290 (dual core 2.8Ghz CPUs)
32GB ECC+REG DDR333 memory (8x 4GB modules)
Onboard SATA2 works and storage is recognized (4 ports)
Onboard gigabit NICs recognized and working (2 ports)
No onboard video, using a Matrox PCI card to free up the PCIe 16x slots for 4x-8x storage controllers
Added in 2 Intel NICs without issue (4 port 1000MT and single port 1000MT working great)
LSI 3081E-R with 8x SATA2 drives working great with RaidAge 4 in 3 drive cages, all power and activity LEDs shiny

Notes:
Adding in too many devices with option ROMs does cause a BIOS error, working through some ways to alleviate that as much as possible, for example, 2x Intel single port gigabit NICs + the Intel 4 port gigabit card and the board ran out of option ROM space, removing the two single port cards and it was back to normal. Next step is finding a stable gigabit switch as the Linksys one I tested with was VERY flaky even with 10/100 devices.

Just want to add I got the LSI 3081E-R 8 port internal SAS controller card working with this and am passing through all 8 drives to a FreeNAS VM. Able to do full SMART reporting as well. If I had the spare change I'd try adding a 2nd one with another 8 drives to see just how many I could fit. If I had way too much extra money I'd love to try it with an external SAS expander to see if I could pass through the 244 devices the LSI cards are capable of. :)
