Post DELL Precision 490 and ESXi4.0
Hi VM group,

I want to submit the successful installation of ESXi4.0 on a DELL Precision 490.
The installation went without a hitch. The ESXi recognized all the hardware.
(Note: Before installation just made sure the BIOS setting for enabling virtualization was enabled)

The DELL Precision 490 workstation specs are as follow:
2xDual Core Intel Xeon 5140 (LGA 771), (4 cores)
4GB FBDIMM ECC memory (4x1GB)
1x 500GB SATA HDD
Add on PCI-E graphics Nvidia
Onboard Gigabit NIC (Broadcom 5752) - recognized and working
Integrated SATA controller with AHCI and RAID support (the ESXi shows it as 631xESB/632xESB storage controller with AHCI)
MB supports VT, BIOS Version A07

Soon I will be adding another HDD in RAID 1. If you have any tips or caveats on the RAID i will appreciate it.

Cheers,
Krasi P.

Thanks for posting your specs. The onboard controller that you refer to is known as software RAID (or fake RAID) and the drivers that come with ESX(i) won't support software RAID sets. The best you'll get is individual drives.
