ESX(i) 4.0 dropped all 100 MBps NIC support. You can try the driver on this page - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/customize_oem_tgz.php.

I have the same board but cannot get the SATA controller to work. Did you add/modify anything or is this a stock install?

What mode do you have the SATA controller in?

Post Re: Asus M4A785T-M
I tried them in both AHCI and IDE modes and still nothing. When I installed an Areca RAID card I had lying around it worked just fine. Not to be outdone by this since everybody else seemed to think this southbridge (SB710) would be supported, I tried a clean install of ESXi and it worked just fine.

Sounds odd and I have no explanation. My original installation to a USB drive used the older method of imaging the USB drive with Linux utilities (including a modified oem.tgz file for Areca support) but I used the ESXi installer to write the drive this time. Maybe there is a difference to what gets written?

Anyway, thanks for the reply!

For anyone looking through these posts, I was able to get the standard board with no additions up an running by using the script described in this post: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4

along with the RTL81xx driver found here: download/file.php?id=136

Since I am running Fedora/Red Hat, I've updated the script to check for both apt-get and yum. I've attached the changed version.
