 Dell Inspiron 545
Just installed ESXi 4 on a Dell Inspiron 545 (Q9400, 8gb ram, 750gb hd). Only needed to add a nic (INTEL PWLA8391GTBLK)Intel Pro/1000 GT.
I also installed it with bios set to raid (ACHI) as well, since the Dell 545's motherboard has the ESXi 4 supported ICH9r chipset. I bought the box off the Dell outlet site for a good price and the nic from newegg.
Thanks for all the info on this site, it really helped me pick a home ESX box.

 Re: Dell Inspiron 545
Hi I am thinking of buying the 545, just wanted to make sure it is compatible, what is the chipset in use, also did you have any problems installing ESXi (or ESX 4) on the local drives? thanks

Intel G41 Express Chipset I think; it saw the local drives with out a problem. Install went with out a bump with the Pro/1000 GT card installed
