Post ICH10R LSI MegaRaid
Hi!
I have the ASUS Z8NA-D6 motherboard and raid1 with 2 500 GB disks.
During installation ESXi 4.1 installer detect 2 independent disks...
I downloaded from asus.com drivers for this controller. But rpm archive contains many versions of drivers for different RedHats and SLES.
What version must I select from this list?
RedHat4U1
RedHat4U2
RedHat4U3
RedHat4U4
RedHat4U5
RedHat4GA

RedHat5U1
RedHat5U2
RedHat5U3
RedHat5U4
RedHat5U5
RedHat5UGA
?

Thank you!

Sorry for the delay in replying (I'm just getting back from vacation).

ESXi does not support software RAID controllers like the ICH10R (the best you can get is individual disks). Drivers for ESXi also have to be compiled specifically for ESXi.

If you're looking for hardware RAID I would suggest something like a Dell Perc 5 /6 controller (they are LSI based).

I'm looking for cheap solution, like STLab a-410. It is built on Silicon 3132.

Will this controller work with this drivers viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2096?

As far as I know Sil 3132 based cards are software RAID as well.

Thanks for Answer!

But in this topic viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2096 neuralspark uses Sil 3132 based card - Rosewill RC-211.

I don't have possibility to buy Rosewill RC-211 quickly...

So, STLab a-410 will not work with esxi 4, will it?

If you look at the 3rd page of discussion the chipset is software RAID so regardless of the brand I don't think you'll get RAID support.

As to the driver working with a specifc model, I would look at the source code for the driver that VMware uses and look at the PCI ids in the source code. If the PCI id for the card you want to use is listed, then it should work OK.
