Here you go. Tested and working on ESXi 4.0U1 ISO (built with Varazir scripts http://code.google.com/p/mkesxiaio).

Note: I have only tested this on a R2710 series (4 port internal SAS/SATA adapter) but from their downloads @ Highpoint they use the same ESX driver across the board so should work for other models.

Note2: The RocketRAID cards kick some butt: Tiny form factor (3.5 inches long! Good for compact 1U builds like the Supermicro X8DTT-F where Areca/LSI/3Ware all failed the length test) and inexpensive.

Shout: Varazir your scripts rock and this site saved many a soul starting out with virtualization on ESXi. Keep up the good work.

Another note:

Patching the system to 4.0U2 using the update client works fine. I am in the process of trying an upgrade to 4.1 and will post results.

I just checked out a picture of it and it's pretty small :). Have you had a chance to do any performance benchmarks with the card?

any update on whether this will work with 4.1U1? My 2722 arrives shortly and I have only been able to find ESXi 4.0U1 upgrade bundle from the manufacturer.

Got mine to work OK. Runs great!

BY any chance do you know if the drivers track any RAID events in their logs or anything? Like if a drive goes bad or something??

They would need to develop a CIM provider to get hardware data from the controller to get that data into ESXi's log.

When reading the compability list and about the card you may belive that it is supported by VMware but its not.

I have a RR 2720 8 ports card and I can confirm that your driver/oem.tgz works fine with the card. I had some trouble to get it to work since as soon I got it to work its stoped working. The issue was with the card and boot settings (INT 13). The card and new driver worked fine whitout and disks/raid created. VMware boots (from USB) and can see the card. But as soon disks are added it hangs during the boot. It took some time to figure it out but its the card who always are the boot disk/card so it tried to boot on the card instead of USB. No settings in BIOS was possible to override it (I tested a lot of variants and USB ports...). The solution is to flash the RR card without INT 13 enable. You can find the latest drivers at Highpoint site (RR272x_1x-BIOS-v1.2-110704-legacy_single.zip as per today). The no raid is the correct one even if it seems strange. Boot on a DOS USB stick and run load.exe -c. The -c gives extra options like disable INT 13.

I found out that when using your oem.tgz I lost the AHCI controller on the mobo. I guess it has been added in 4.1 and yours was based on 4.0. Attached are a new oem.tgz with the latest simple.map from 4.1. (I did also remove inetd.conf from it).

Im new to this and Im a winimage/7zip user and I found out that it was impossible to edit simple.map + extract the simple.map from the iso without using Linux or as in my case "Local Tech Support" in VMware.

The storage adapter is listed as unknown. I assume that you need to create the folder /etc/vmware/pciid/ and a rr272x_1x.xml (driver name + xml) in the same in the oem.tgz to get it listed properly?

Here is a oem.tgz with rr272x_1x.xml based on p.h.'s one, but I've tested a RR2720 with 4.1U1 only.

I want to start off by saying thanks to all the people who have contributed to making the rocketraid cards work with vmware ESXi. I have set this up and my system is up and running. My only question is if there is any way I can monitor my hard drivers by using the RAID management utility downloaded from the highpoint website.
