Post Re: Intel 82578DC 8086:10f0 (on Intel motherboard DH55TC)
I am 99% there but am missing something.

I have created a bootable USB install medium and proved it will install ESXi.

The install goes smoothly and reboots to load hyper visor.

At the end of the HyperV load I get a flash of red text, when the load completes I am advised that I do not have a supported NIC.

I am using the DQ57TM board, I have dl'd one of the OEM files from here and modified the cfg file to include the OEM.TGZ

I have modified the pci.ids and the simple.map with the following

8086:10ef 0000:0000 network e1000e2.o
and:
10ef 82578DM Gigabit Network Connection

I have been doing all my mods inside Ubuntu10 under VM player.

I am pulling my hair out on this and any help would be greatly appreciated.

A sulking linux newby :(

Hello and welcome.

Did you use my script ?

If you just add a oem file in the root of the CD/USB you have to boot with a live CD after and add the oem file to the system as it's not copied to the harddrive during installation.

Hi Daniel,

I tried the script but my severe lack of linux knowledge let me down.

I couldnt make the script executable under Ubuntu 10.10 CHMOD +X didnt work and then trying to execute the script failed.

I dont have a USB CD-rom so am doing everything from the USB, where should I put the oem.tgz file on the usb to get it installed.

This is what I have done so far..

Extracted the ISO to the USB stick
Make the stick bootable with SYSLINUX4.0.3
Renamed the ISOLINUX.CFG to SYSLINUX.CFG and added KS=USB --- OEM.TGZ --- MOD.TGZ
Added a KS.CFG file to the root
Added a MOD.TGZ file to the root
Copied a OEM.TGZ file from here and ammended the PCI and SIMPLE files with the following
PCI 8086 10ef 82578DM Gigabit Network Connection
SIMPLE 8086:10ef 0000:0000 network e1000e2.o

I have installed esxi fine from it, it just fails to see the NIC when I start up after install.

I hope you can see a flaw in my plan :(

you can run the script using "bash mkesxiaio_4.1.sh"
You can't run it using only a live cd you need a extra hard drive or installed the OS.

You need to copy the oem file to /bootbank/ on the hard drive.

No, you need to copy the tgz files after you have installed ESXi to the hdd

Does it matter if it cant preserve ownership for a number of files?

I ran sudo -u root bash mkesxiaio_4.1.sh

shouldn't, some files/folders will have root rights

I use to do like this

sudo -s
password
then run " bash mkesxiaio_4.1sh "
