Post Re: Intel 82578DC 8086:10f0 (on Intel motherboard DH55TC)
Good morning!
I only tried the usb boot option (creates less coasters), because after this error I expected the same result creating an ISO file. Should I try the ISO option as well?
Thanks

I try to install esxi 4.1 on a HP Elite 8100 CMT as a test environment prior to installing it to a real IBM X3650 server later.
The script for Intel 82578 ran through after all, but the created USB install stick booted to the (continously repeated) error message: "menu.c32: not a COM32R image"
What went wrong? Thanks in advance, gromit42

Never seen that error. you are sure there are no bad blocks on the usb device ?

@Varazir:
Thanks, the stick is Verbatim 4GB, freshly opened blister pack, but I'll try again reformatting before...

Okay, strange, you could try that. You don't have another one ?
To me it sounds like it's a file it can't read on the USB device.
Could be a mem failure too as ESXi use a ram drive.

Do you have a mem test in the BIOS ?
There is some on the net you can install to a USB and run too

OK, I'll try both, memtest86 and another stick. Let's see...

So, I finally formatted another stick and ran through the whole script again erasing the previously created image.
Same error.
I only noted one more detail: in the end of the script while creating the usb bootable stick there was the message:
"..maybe you'll have do adjust /etc/fstab.. " (in german)
Memtest86+ 4.10 ran without errors.
Any idea? Thanks in advance...

You can try the USB intall method here - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/ESXi_USB_install.php. You'll want to replace oem.tgz in the root folder. This method doesn't update oem.tgz in the install image, but you can choose the syslinux version that you use and perhaps you'll get a bit further in the process.

My script do not touch that file at all.
So can't see the problem, you have md5 check the iso file ? ( sorry if I missed it if you have done it)

Hi, I'll try the other method. I didn't md-check the iso, but the iso works as a cd.
Meanwhile, I tried the option "create ISO", deleted the temp files, without changing anything else, and the second created ISO worked, after adjusting the two config files. VMWare boots up. So the source files seem to be ok.
@hardworker: Did you already use the 1.2.20 source code?
Tomorrow I'll try the USB option anyway.
Meanwhile, thank you for your help and have a nice weekend..

The 1.1.19 version of the driver also works for a Lenovo Thinkpad T410. That laptop uses an Intel 82577LM NIC. It has an address of 8086:10ea. I used the mkesxiaio_4.1.sh script and only customised the pci.ids and simple.map files, along with adding the driver files. I wrote up instructions on my blog for other newbies (I found piecing together what to do and where to start frustrating, as a newbie).

Driver: viewtopic.php?p=6872#p6872 (2nd post from "hardworker" in this thread)

Hope this helps, enjoy.
