Just to let you know, upgrading to 4.1 was as easy as uploading a file via FTP and running

esxupdate update --bundle=upgrade-from-ESXi4.0-to-4.1.0-0.0.260247-release.zip

oem.tgz was kept, ssh and ftp too, realtek driver fully working.

Post Re: New version of Realtek R8168 oem.tgz
I used this for RTL8111L, but it says no compatible network adapter found...
I think Realtek has the same driver package for all of its PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet adapters. I ran the diagnose tool on Windows and it even says my model is 8169(actually 8111D onboard).
So what's the difference between Realtek PCI-E cards with different name 8169/8111 +letter(D/L or whatever)
Can someone make oem.tgz for other (hopefully all :D) Realtek cards.

BTW I followed this http://www.spreendigital.de/blog/2009/0 ... ows-tools/ to add oem.tgz in ESXi 4.0U1, is there a way to make sure I did it right (If I didn't get it right,of course I would get no compatible network adapter error)?

Thanks.

Does it work for ESXi 4.1?

Yes, it is! Even more - it works under true ESX 4.1! Not only ESXi.
My configuration is:
------------------------------------------------------------------
MB: Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3
CPU: Intel i5 680, S 1156, Dual Core, 3.6 GHz
RAM: Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/8G
HDD: 320GB Hitachi Travelstar 5K500.B, 2.5"
Cooler: Scythe Shuriken Rev.B Quiet Low Profile Cooler 3 Heat Pipe
Case: Silverstone Sugo SG06B, Black, Mini ITX Case with 300W 80+ PSU
------------------------------------------------------------------
I've got cheap, but powerful server! Everything works perfecty, but only one issue with r8168 driver. Every 20 sec annoying warning messages in /var/log/vmkernel :
RTNL: assertion failed at vmkdrivers/src26/drivers/net/r8168/r8168_n.c (1771)

I mean that this forum is dedicated by ESXi, but some people prefer to use ESX. But ESX has some configuration differences with ESXi. That's it.

Yes, I know. :) But some people who have buyed ESX wants to build a cheap server for small branch(for example). I think performance of my server is good enough for 20-30 employees branch. May be more.
So we get off track! :) Do you know how to fix this issue with every 20 sec annoying messages in log?
