Are you adding this to an existing and working installation? If you have your system booting properly and just extract the files, can you start the NFS server OK?

I manually copied the files and unfsd starts, but was only able to connect to itself.
when connecting to any other esxi - error

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateNasDatastore" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "192.168.44.9" failed.
Operation failed, diagnostics report: Unable to get Console path for Mount

ESXi (unlike ESX) doesn't have a firewall.

Post Re: ESXi 4.1 U1 as NFS server
I tried some things with this tonight and wasn't successful. I was able to mount /vfms or /tmp, but then I couldn't see the contents. I could create a folder, which I couldn't see, but I could see via SSH.

Trying to access /vmfs/volumes or a specific datastore (by name or UUID) never worked. I did use the -d option to force TCP as I saw some vmkernel errors about that.
