Post enabling FTP fo ESXI 4 U1
So, I read the page that esplains how to add FTP support.

But it does say that one needs to use the customized oem.tgz, and reading the instructions for that I couldn't tell how to apply that to an already installed system (running off a disk drive, not USB).

Can someone clarify this for me?

First do you have SSH access to the server ?

You need to download few things and add some lines to a conf file to enable the FTP.

If you don't have ssh access you need to read up on that first.

Yep, all SSH'ed up.

I did read what one needs to add manually, but it sounded like those changes essentially get lost when the system reboots, hence the need to change to oem.tgz.

Do I have that right?

Well you could create a oem file and upload it to the server

It looks like the customize OEM.tgz posted on this site already contains everything needed to enable FTP.

My question is, how does only apply that to an already installed config?

Do I just upload it, reboot, and call it a day?

If the oem.tgz contains everything that you need then you just have to copy it to /bootbank to overwrite the existing file (assuming that the existing one doesn't contain any modifications already).

I would also check the oem.tgz file to ensure that it is free of other changes (other drivers, simple.map, etc).
