Re: RTL8111/8168 and P55 integr. SATA Ctrl. (AHCI) for ESX 4
Hi everyone,
last weekend I moved my ESXi to my new Server with an ASUS H67-M EVO Mainboard, which has a RTL8111 NIC onboard. (The NIC is connected to a switch which displays the Speed and the duplex mode)
At first I though everything works well (1000Mbps) with the NIC, but I found out something strange: when i turn the server off (PSU) and back on again, the NIC was not able to switch from 100Mbps to 1000Mbps, no matter which driver I used. BUT when I start an Linux from a Live-CD (I used Ultimate Boot CD), the NIC swited to 1000Mbps and after a reboot, without changing anything on the ESXi, the ESXi has a 1000Mbps connection.
I verified the Network Speed under WHS 2011 RC (> 700Mbps)
I could reproduce this, by the way.
Does anyone had the same issues?

That is the version I'm currently using. The NIC Version on the Mainboard is 8111E. Do anyone know if there are differences between the "older" Controllers?

That driver is crashing for me now All other drivers that are on this forum work but I can't get network to work properly for the guests (only internet) All other apps give protocol errors or garbled connection. *sad face*

I had that same issue until i installed VM Tools, Removed the Intel Nic in the VM Entry, and installed VMXNET3 Adapter.

Which driver are you using? Tried it with this driver viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2187 and this one viewtopic.php?p=9462#p9462 but no go.

I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the VM Tools, but i haven't removed the Intel Nic. Thank you guys anyway, nearly everythings works properly now!

Re: RTL8111/8168 and P55 integr. SATA Ctrl. (AHCI) for ESX 4
Hello, I am new to VMware ESX (and to this forum ), and I want to try it at home. I know the choise of hardware is very limited, but I found a motherboard that will probably work with ESX. It's a MSI P55-GD80 http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1844]MSI P55-GD80 I found this at the Ultimate ESX Whitebox site http://ultimatewhitebox.com/motherboard/204I have a two questions about this motherboard: 1. Are both 2 onboard nic's fully working with ESX 4.1 2. is RAID (5) working on this motherboard?

For the MB you'll need to add a community built driver for the NICs and the onboard RAID controller will be something like an ICH*R. Those are software RAID and ESXi doesn't support that. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130238

Is there a motherboard that work straight out-of-the-box good with all onboard connectors / devices? budget = arround €150.- , It is great when it has also 2 ONBOARD nic's I know that a network PCI-card works better, but that's €100.- extra ;p
