 Re: Customising ESXi 4?
ariguelo wrote: Hi.
I'm just installing ESXi 4.1 using the Varazir's script and is working very well. My question now is about vSphere 4.1. My MCP61 is not supported and I would like to know if I can use the same script. I tried, but the ISO file is deleted just after the script started.
Thanks !!!
Ariguelo Do you have a specific need to run ESX? If it's a functionality issue then it's likely the case that ESXi will be fine.

 Re: Customising ESXi 4?
Not a specific need really. I thought with ESX 4.1 I could run more vSphere apps or tools and looking for just play with the different options (Standart, Ent, etc). With ESXi, Can I do the all the same as ESX4.1 (Ent).
In case of specific need, the Varazir's script should work for ESXi and ESX4.1 as well ???
I tried but it’s failing.
Thanks !!!
Ariguelo.

 Re: Customising ESXi 4?
ESXi can be licensed at any level in the vSphere product range and the functionality is the same as with ESX. ESX 4.1 is the last version that VMware will release so I wouldn't put too much effort into it.

 Re: Customising ESXi 4?
I'm having a problem installing from the created USB ESXi 4.1. After HD's selection to install, appears the following error message (See pic also)
Installation operation failed! The installation operation has encountered a fatal error:
Unable to find system image to install. This is due to the image not being mounted correctly or the CD-ROM not being supported.
Thanks for the support.

Varazir wrote: How do you mean ISO is deleted ?? I don't delete any file except if you are running the script again and the final iso file has the same name as the one you just made. But then you get a question if you like to delete the old file. This doesn't happen until late in the script.
//Daniel Varazir, sorry for the misunderstood. I was using the ISO of ESX, not ESXi and you just told me that is not supported with script. The script is running very well, I think my problem is I cannot find the right oem file for my MCP61 Lab. Thanks !! Ariguelo

 Re: Customising ESXi 4?
Can you post the PCI id for the controller - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/find_PCI_ID.php and also try to load the driver manually with the vmkload_mod command.

 Re: Customising ESXi 4?
Thanks Dave.
Attach is the log with the PCI output. I have created the USB with your “simple.map and pci_ids.zip” and other with one from ricdanger, same image problem in both case.
To discard any problem with the procedure, I tested with ESXi 4.0 and in this version is running fine. I could install from the USB created with the Varazir’s script.
I also run MD5 to verify the image integrity and they are exact as vmware site:
# md5sum VMware-VMvisor-Installer-4.1.0-260247.x86_64.iso 35201279338c6efbbb071ffcc673f822 VMware-VMvisor-Installer-4.1.0-260247.x86_64.iso
About the vmkload_mod, which driver do I need to try to load ?
Thanks for your help
